Behind the Design of Our Illusion Technique

What It Is, How It’s Made, & Why We Love It

Unique to Kendra Scott, our illusion technique is found in our signature and seasonal collections, adding new artistry to Mother-of-Pearl jewelry in the colors of the moment.

How We Make It

Defined as layering a colored material over shell, there are two ways we execute our illusion technique for our Ivory Pearl necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. To create materials like our Sky Blue Illusion, we gently hammer a thin layer of shell to produce fine crackling, then bond the shell between two layers of dyed resin. Stones like Berry Illusion, on the other hand, utilize a thin layer of shell between two pieces tinted glass, adding new dimension to shell’s natural variations.

Our Favorite Pieces

This Mother-of-Pearl jewelry brings unique color and depth to any look you want to achieve. One option? Go minimalistic and layer our dainty Faceted Reid Long Pendant Necklace in Coral Illusion or the Elisa Pendant Necklace in Cobalt Blue Illusion with other delicate staples. New limited edition hues such as Azalea Illusion or Sky Blue Illusion transcend the season, while Berry Illusion, Light Blue Illusion, and Peridot Illusion are here to stay – and can even be used to customize jewelry at the Color Bar™.
